Absolutely! I welcome commissions and you can be involved in all design and material decisions. We can discuss handle material, blade shape, size and steel type. Custom pieces are priced by quote according to the knife type. A 50% deposit will be required before starting a custom build. Please note I will only produce UK legal knives.
It all depends on the scope of the work, the materials you choose and the size of the knife in question. Feel free to take a look at our products page to give yourself a rough idea based on a comparable knife, or request a commission to get an exact quote based on your requirements.
A minimum of 1 month from the date the order is finalised. The exact timeframe will depend on current workload and the complexity of the design and pattern.
All of my pattern-welded blades are constructed from a mix of carbon steels (specifically EN42J and 15N20). I use carbon steels because personally I don’t think stainless steel performs as well with respect to edge retention or initial sharpenability.
All my knives are constructed from carbon steel which is prized for its toughness, edge retention, and sharpenability. Unlike stainless steel, special care must be taken to ensure long life. The blade will patina with use and certain foodstuffs will cause some discolouration e.g. red onion, lemons. To avoid this, have a damp cloth to hand to wipe the blade frequently during use. The blade should be cleaned and meticulously dried after each use, as per the care instructions.
I would recommend searching YouTube for ‘How to sharpen a carbon steel knife’. If you require any other information or guidance on sharpening one of my products, feel free to ring me for a chat.
You must be over 21. We will require age verification before selling any of our knives. There may be additional requirements depending on any changes in legislation.
Whilst my main focus if knives I’m never adverse to making something different. I have made a variety of bottle openers, toasting forks (perfect for those long cold winters in front of the fire), candle holders and even a pattern-welded spoon as a gift for a new baby. I tend to make things that I find interesting and challenging. I’m not really set up for architectural ironwork but if I can get it in my forge I’ll have a go! Browse the products page for examples.
At the moment I am only able to take payment by bank transfer.
